John S. Duley Lifetime Achievement Award in Experiential Education 2022
National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE)
The NSEE award recognized Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin for a lifetime of sustained contributions to “the development of the philosophy and practice of experiential education and to the advancement of that field." Award winners “have done so while demonstrating professional integrity, humanitarian regard, ethical concern, standards of excellence, informed knowledge, leadership, service, dedication, and recognized scholarship/practice,” according to the NSEE.
Jefferson Science Fellowship - 2019
Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin was awarded a prestigious Jefferson Science Fellowship from the National Academies of Sciences. Selected Jefferson Science Fellows spend one year on assignment at the U.S. Department of State or USAID as science advisors on foreign policy/international development issues.
Teaching Excellence Award - 2018
Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin received the 2018 Teaching Excellence Award for full-time faculty at Penn State Lehigh Valley. McLaughlin, associate professor of biology, was honored for her motivating, passionate, and challenging teaching.
Gerard A. Hauser Award for Best Overall Exhibit Presentation
CHANCE 2017 Fellows, Logan Staley and Ethan Liu, won the Gerard A. Hauser Award for Best Overall Exhibit Presentation (Grand Prize) at the 2018 Penn State Undergraduate Research Exhibition, State College, PA. Their presentation: Exploring the Economic Utilization of Invasive Species to Improve the Health of Ecosystems in Cuba, shared their summer 2017 CHANCE field research in Western Cuba.
Higher Education Educator of the Year – 2017
Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin, CHANCE Founding Director and Associate Professor of Biology at Penn State Lehigh Valley, was the recipient of the 2017 Higher Education Educator of the Year from the North American Association for Environmental Education. This award is presented to an individual who is recognized for their efforts in promoting environmental education and utilizing the environment as a context for learning in their teaching.
Outstanding Contribution in
Outreach and/or Service – 2015
Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin, CHANCE Founding Director and Associate Professor of Biology at Penn State Lehigh Valley, was the recipient of the 2015 Penn State Lehigh Valley award for Outstanding Contribution in Outreach and/or Service. The purpose of this award is to recognize excellence in outreach and service by a faculty member at the Lehigh Valley Campus.
W. LaMarr Kopp International Achievement Award – 2015
Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin, CHANCE Founding Director and Associate Professor of Biology at Penn State Lehigh Valley, was the recipient of the 2015 W. LaMarr Kopp International Achievement Award.
The W. LaMarr Kopp International Achievement Awards are designed to recognize those at Penn State who make extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the international mission of the University.
Penn State Award for Community Engagement and Scholarship – 2012
CHANCE was the recipient of the 2012 Penn State Award for Community Engagement and Scholarship.
The award recognizes a project that best exemplifies Penn State as an "engaged institution," which the Kellogg Commission defines as an institution that has redesigned teaching, research and extension and service functions to become even more sympathetically and productively involved with its communities.
Outstanding Environmental Education Program – 2012
CHANCE was the recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Environmental Education Program from the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators. This award recognizes an exemplary environmental education program which could be used as a model program.
Bringing the World to Pennsylvania Award – 2005
CHANCE was the recipient of the 2005 Bringing the World to Pennsylvania Award. This award is given out by the Pennsylvania Council for International Education (PaCIE) to exceptional programs and teachers who bring together all the goals of their organization.
