Funds & Support

CHANCE has a few areas of our organization that are the focus of our financial needs. If you wish to have your donation earmarked for a specific area of support, please note the fund name on the donation form otherwise it will be put towards the area of greatest need.

Conservation Fund

These funds will help to financially support our conservation efforts, like tropical rainforest reforestation efforts in Panama, sea turtle rookery (nesting site) protection and preservation in Costa Rica and Cuba, and plastic clean-up in the mangroves of Australia or China. Every CHANCE field course involves several conservation projects.

Field Course Fund

Gifts to this fund will help us reduce the overall cost for the international field-course component of our yearly programs. Field course funds are also used to provide honoraria to our field scientists and conservationists who devote endless hours carrying-out authentic research and service learning projects with our participants.

Scholarship Funds

Not every student can afford a short-term study abroad experience, especially ones like CHANCE that take students to distant destinations like Europe, Australia, Cuba, and Panama. Though the costs of each of our unique field courses are subsidized by our donors, most Penn State undergraduates and Pennsylvania high school teachers can still not afford the remaining (reduced) cost which includes: international and in-country travel, lodging, and meals; field research and conservation activities; and, tuition costs. (All CHANCE field courses are accredited through Penn State University.) These funds are used directly to assist student scholars and devoted teachers who are vetted to participate but possess financial need that hinder their ability to experience the world through CHANCE.

General Needs

This area covers the usual expenses that go along with running any organization, such as technology needs, marketing, administrative expenses, field supplies and gear. Since this program offers its own website to showcase our international field courses, environmentally-themed research news and publications, online teaching modules, career resources for students and teachers, and more, funds are also needed to design and maintain our website.
